My biggest takeaway from the course so far is the impact that spirituals have. I've learned and came to understand how spirituals share a story, there are a way of communicating, and expressing emotions. Spirituals have a strong community aspect that build strength and hope. Also something that has stood out to me is when spirituals incorporate lyrics that express a journey towards spiritual salvation through faith while also symbolizing a deeply felt hope for physical freedom and liberation from the bonds of slavery. All of these aspects have made me look at spirituals in different ways that help me understand them more.
