 I think for me, my light bulb moment was realizing that American gospel and spiritual music actually draws from the latest forms of African American spiritual music and a variety of African American music types. The impact that African American and European music types has been tremendous and it has been so interesting to learn about each and every one of them and how they contributed and spread to the popularity of Spiritual and Gospel music all together. Through call-and -response, hymns, and ring shout traditions these music varieties allowed a more creative and authentic music that can be heard around the world. Each with their own unique technique and ability to spread messages about African American survival and struggles these music variations are incredibly special to the history of gospel and spiritual music. This light-bulb moment has made me realize how interesting this course is and how I want to keep learning more about these different origins and how they impacted the music industry.
