The song I chose was "Rise up" by Andra Day
I chose this song because the lyrics and emotion behind the song are what produces the community and solidarity aspect of this assignment. In the video that I linked Andra speaks before performing on hwy she wrote the song in the first place, and describes that anyone going through any sort of struggle, whether that is mental health, physical health or emotional health, always has another chance to rise up and start again. She provides this sense of community saying that you are not alone in this fight and supports the solidarity of gathering your thoughts and grounding yourself into today. Within the message of this song is a powerful moment that has reached across many nations as the song of overcoming. She believes everyone deserves second chances and that is what makes this song so strong in community and solidarity.
