Quinn Post 2: Community and Solidarity

For my song, I picked "The Cave" by Mumford and Sons, specifically the live performance linked here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqD52ad2_Jg

Folk and rock concerts often encourage communal singing. "The Cave" specifically builds in intensity with each verse and chorus, culminating in a soaring refrain that is easy for audiences to pick up and repeat. In live settings, thousands of voices join together on the chorus, producing the same sense of belonging and shared purpose that one might find in a camp meeting song. The simplicity of the song is what makes it so accessible for everyone to join in on the singing, but the emotional weight of the performance as well as the energetic delivery from the band is what makes the audience leave feeling like they were apart of something bigger than themselves.
