ATENY Prompt 11

 For my soul performance, I’m choosing “A Change Is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke.

I like this performance because Sam Cooke’s voice feels both calm and powerful at the same time. He came out of the gospel world, and you can really hear that in the way he phrases certain lines and how emotional the song is. What I like most is how the whole message hits even harder when you know the song came out during the Civil Rights era and was tied to real struggles he was going through. It’s soul music, but it still feels like a prayer and a warning all at once. Even today it still feels relevant and inspiring.
