I also chose this performance for my week 10 post. This performance feels particularly powerful to me, and what I love is that it almost feels like these two songs were made to be mixed together, even though normally they sound different.
The biggest takeaway I had in this course was how much influence African American spirituals had towards all music, even today. Most genres of music like blues, jazz, and others, seem like they all were formed through multiple different stages of developing spirituals. Eventually these spirituals branched off into these other genres. But it’s crazy to think most of our music today came from these emotional songs about suffering and resilience .
