So far in this course, I’ve learned that spirituals and gospel music aren’t just about religion and praise, they’re also about social resistance and spiritual strength. These songs speak to deep struggles and hope, giving voice to people who faced oppression and slavery but still found ways to express faith, community, and healing. Now that I understand this, I hear gospel music in a whole new way. This deeper understanding has made me appreciate gospel music not just as sound but as a powerful form of true storytelling.
