Blow Gabriel is a beautiful African American spiritual. In the song, there is a ring shout and call-and-response, which is very cool to listen to. The song started in Georgia. The idea behind the song is that Gabriel the angel will blow his trumpet, for hope to be felt. There is a lot of energy within the song; you can feel it in the claps. One powerful lyric is, "I want that trumpet to blow me home to my new Jerusalem". Why the lyric is so strong is that Jerusalem stands for a place of joy and heaven. I chose this song because the emotion was so strong and the clapping/ vocals were amazing.
