The spiritual I chose is titled "One Morning Soon". This spiritual symbolizes hope that 'one morning soon' they will be in Heaven where they are free of their suffering; and that they long for these better times even if they come in death. The song consists of one four measure phrase of music that gets repeated four times with different lyrics. The first three measures are the same lyrics repeated three times, and the fourth measure's lyrics are always "I heard the angels singing". It supposedly was documented for the first time in the 19th century, and written by the Choctaw Indian community. I picked this spiritual because I thought it was very interesting how there are such few lyrics, but it still gets such a powerful point across.
