For Module three's blog prompt I selected the spiritual titled "One Morning Soon". Work's first type of spiritual, call and response, is embedded into this spiritual because there are 4 measures in each phrase, and the first 3 measures are the same lyrics repeated 3 times. For example, the second phrase is "Down on my knees, Down on my knees, Down on my knees I heard the angels singing." When performed this is shown as a call and response with the repeated statement of "Down on my knees". Work's second type is a slow and sustained long-phrase melody, and we can see this in "One Morning Soon" as well when listening to the spiritual because we can feel the slow tempo, and the lines stretch over multiple beats. Work's final type is syncopated, segmented melody which I don't really see in "One Morning Soon". When I was researching different versions of this song, the lyrics seem to always fall on the beats and not at a syncopated rate.
