For my example of a modern-day street performance, I chose a video of a classical string quintet performing Vivaldi’s Summer from The Four Seasons in London’s Covent Garden. This performance represents a more serious and formal style of busking, showing how classical musicians bring refined art into a public, everyday space. Street performance offers many benefits for artists like these: it provides direct exposure to diverse audiences who might never attend a concert hall, allows the performers to share their craft freely, and creates moments of beauty and reflection in busy urban settings. Busking also helps musicians develop confidence, adaptability, and community connection, since they must engage listeners despite distractions and unpredictable environments. I chose this clip because it demonstrates how classical music, often considered exclusive or highbrow, can find new life and accessibility through street performance, transforming the city itself into a concert hall and inviting anyone passing by to pause and listen.
