 I chose Thomas Dorsey’s “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” performed by Aretha Franklin (live).

I picked this version because Aretha makes the song feel way more personal and emotional than the simple hymnbook version. She slows it down, lets her voice stretch, and almost talks to God through the melody. Dorsey wrote it as a prayer during loss, and she really leans into that feeling. The words and main tune stay the same, but the performance feels like her own testimony. This shows how gospel isn’t just sung. It’s lived.
