I chose Rev. William Herbert Brewster's first publicized song "I'm Leaning and Depending on the Lord". This version is done by "Sweet Honey in the Rock". I chose this one because this group is all women of color, and I thought it very closely resonated with the emotional aspects of the original. I also wanted to choose this song since it was the starting song of Brewster's career, and led to him publishing over 200 other songs. This song also recorded numerous times when it originally came out by other companies, so I thought it would be interesting to find a more recent rendition of it as well. The producer of this version was Bernice Johnson Reagan, and the group now has numerous albums and singles of different gospel songs, old and new.
