I chose Mahalia Jackson's "How I Got Over" because her voice is an excellent combination of strength, weakness, and hope, making the performance emotionally overwhelming even after decades. Singing this song at the March on Washington in 1963, shortly before Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" address, adds significant historical and spiritual weight, transforming it into a moment when music, faith, and the battle for civil rights all come together.
