One of the most important things I learned in the gospel history course was how gospel music has influenced almost every major American music style, like blues, jazz, R&B, soul, rock, and hip-hop. Gospel music has always changed and adapted to fit social moments and spiritual needs. Learning how it moved from spirituals to Holiness churches, big choirs, and modern crossover artists showed me how strong and flexible this tradition is.
What I liked the most in the course was “How Great Thou Art (Until That Day)” by Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, Hillary Scott, TAYA & Friends. The song has a very powerful and emotional feeling. Listening to it makes you see how gospel music is still alive, strong, and able to touch people today.
