I picked this performance because it had a nice historical component incorporated into the performance. It's a modern performance of Thomas Dorsey's "Take My Hand, Precious lord". I liked that it was sort of a looking glass back to where the gospel started. Dorsey is not considered the father of gospel music for no reason; elements of his compositions and performances became incorporated into gospel itself. Rev Robert Jones has a great deal of respect for the history of gospel, all while making this performance feel personal with self-accompaniment with his guitar and harmonica. The way he can effortlessly switch between narrating the history to performing is impressive. He is a teacher and performer.
