One of the biggest things I’m taking away from this course is how alive and adaptable gospel music really is. I never realized how much it has changed across generations, pulling from blues, R&B, soul, and even hip-hop, while still keeping its core purpose of community and spiritual expression. It made me listen to a lot of the music I already knew in a completely different way. My favorite discovery was Andraé Crouch. I had heard of him before, but I didn’t know how influential he was or how much he impacted gospel and mainstream music. His performance of Soon and Very Soon stuck with me and became one of the songs I kept going back to.
