Simonelli Prompt #4: Modern Performance of a Spiritual

I selected a performance of the spiritual "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" by Reba McEntire. I was drawn to this particular video and performance because it does not sound like any performance of the song I have heard before. Her rendition is very lively as she interacts with both the band and backup singers throughout the performance. This communication on stage makes it incredibly engaging to watch. Though it is a well-known spiritual, Reba McEntire puts a spin on it, even inviting the audience to sing along! I feel like she brings the lyrics and themes of hope after suffering to life. I especially liked the way she started out and ended by singing slowly and making the lyrics more drawn out; this choice really made it a full-circle performance! I wanted to share this video with everyone because it would not have been the first performance I would think of when I think of Reba, but now it is one of my favorites!
