A song that I’ve found that connected with our course is “Pray” by Sam Smith. I chose this one because it has a clear gospel influence with the choir and piano, and the lyrics talk about turning to faith when life feels heavy. I think it connects to what we’ve been studying because, like the spirituals, it’s about searching for hope and strength through belief. Even though it’s a modern pop song, it still carries that same emotional honesty and feeling of reaching out to something greater.
