 Thus far in the class we have learned a lot. I have expanded my knowledge in the History of spirituals and Gospels throughout different times in history. We have learned how religion and freedom have shaped these musical endeavors and the deeper meanings behind them. Personally I think that my favorite part of the class has been finding the meanings that are hidden in the spirituals and decoding the purposes of the said spirituals. When we listen to them and hear the performance in particular, "Go down Moses", you can hear the emotion from within the song. The double meaning with religion and resistance play a major role and songs like that are very interesting to me because of how they were used as a tool during the days of enslavement.
