The biggest takeaway I have had in this course so far is that gospel and spiritual music is far more than a genre of music. It represents African American resilience and identity and how they have fought to preserve this identity throughout time. These songs could be song outside, in churches or even concert halls and they would still carry deep, emotional weight. .
